Symbolism
❧ The baby's first taste should be something sweet, so parents may let the baby chew a piece of date and to then rub the juice along the baby's gums.

❧ The father takes the baby into his arms, and whisper prayer into the delicate new born baby's right ear. The Iqamah is then spoken into the left ear of the baby. Then, sugar or a date is put on the tongue of the child by a relative of the baby and the family.
